Silk Yarn
Silk yarn is made from the fibers spun from the cocoon of the silkworm. A popular type of silk yarn today is recycled silk yarn. It is a lovely yarn that also happens to help people and the planet. It is, as the name implies, made from recycled silk. This silk is the waste silk from industrial weaving mills in India (usually from making saris). The yarn is hand spun in Nepal, giving women there a way to work and earn money. Recycled silk yarn comes in a hank rather than a ball. You will find that it is worth your time to wind the yarn into a ball as it can end up in a tangled mess if you don't. Recycled silk yarn is beautiful in small projects like bags, wraps, sleevless tops and other small items where you'd like some luxury.
